Add N To (X)
You just got to love that band name. This is what attracted me to them in the first place. I had read a few articles in music magazines and the reviews were good so I decided to check them out. This first happened when an old Montreal friend of mine was visiting during my first six month stay in Sweden. We were watching this obscure german version of MTV on the satellite which were playing these really weird videos from artists I had never heard of... until the video for Little Black Rocks In The Sun came on. It's loud electronic drones and high-pitched sounds were accompanied by constantly flashing multicolored geometrical shapes. The song kept going and going... It was quite hypnotic and I was hooked. Shortly after, I started buying their records. They were much more on the pop side then I expected (especially when compared to the video), but they had this dirty electronic sound which I really enjoyed. As time went by, perverted elements slowly infiltrated their sound and image. This turned me off at first (pun intended) as I hade always preferred the more experimental side of the band, but this depraved side went well with their music. The few dirty videos they released eventually made them into underground stars. To me, Add N To (X) are some of the most interesting and experimental electro clash artists to date. It's a petty they disbanded. I used to own pretty much everything they had put out until I sold practically my whole collection in order to move to Sweden back in 2003.
