It's with this album that Add N To (X) put their name out there. Like some sort of funky oversexed, malfunctioning pimp robot straight out of some lo-budget 60's sci-fi/horror flick, Avant Hard will amuse you, make you laugh, dance; you'll marvel at all it's shiny parts and buttons, but when you least expect it, it will shock you and maybe even violate you! I personally prefer the more playful tracks on the album like the opening Barry 7's Contraption and the closing Machine Is Bored With Love (complete with Ennio Morricone-esque whistling), but even these tracks have a twisted side. Even the more aggressive tracks are quite addictive as well however. How can you not fall for the constant pounding of Fyuz with it's soft female vocals (courtesy of Alison Goldfrapp - yes that Goldfrapp) or the drunken attacks of Buckminster Fuller? Metal Fingers In My Body and Revenge Of The Black Regent were minor hits when released. A classic! |
