Afrirampo
Sexy, cartoonish and absolutely insane are a few ways to describe the music of Japan's latest darlings: Afrirampo. Although the group is basically a duo of two young girls from Osaka, Oni on guitar and Pikachu on drums; the results sound like a large scale riot! Nothing can prepare you for the absolute mayhem which you are about to hear when you pop one of their albums in your stereo. Metal, noise, all types of rock and sudden excursions into confusion? It's all there, bundle up in a cute little package which will make you go "awww" while you hide for cover.
Acid Mothers Temple, Boredoms and even John Zorn are all raving about these girls and with good cause. If you're into psych rock, this is a must! How could you go wrong when Makoto Kawabata, arguably the king of recent japanese psych rock refers to them as "mutant rock"? Surprisingly enough, this classification actually fits their sound very well, like a girly version of early Butthole Surfers on amphetamines, so what are you waiting for!?
