Agitation Free
Krautrock gone ethnic! Agitation Free continues the tradition of the experimental and psychedelic german rock scene of the seventies but adds a heavy dose of middle east asian influences, probably due to their trips in the area at the time. The music of Agitation Free often has this grandiose quality to them, but it never sounds overbearing, like a gentle trip. It is sometimes all-out crazy psych and sometimes very gentle and almost ambient. The use of field recordings adds an earthy touch to the already pastoral sounds. There was only going to be three albums by this band (plus one live recording) before it would all end, which is unfortunate as the music on these albums is quite promising. But sometimes it's better to quit while you're ahead.
I picked up on this band after exploring the net for major records of the german psych-rock scene and surely enough, Agitation Free was there with their first album Malesch. It took quite sometime before I actually found these albums for sale in a store (I was bent on getting the Spalax CD editions since I had been collecting a few of these already). I finally found and bought the first two albums while on a trip in Paris, France back in 2003. I'm still looking for that third one.
