What an incredibly trippy album. No need for drugs, this album is the sonic equivalent of smoking up a dooby! The whole thing starts up with a field recording of a muslim pilot asking the band to play music, followed by a huge bass-heavy synth drone. The familiar repetitive musical patterns inherent to krautrock slowly fade in as does the fuzz guitar and then we are off and flying. Every song is like a little imaginary cloud-filled daydream trip through middle-east asia (during a more serene time). Sahara City for example is a practically ambient number up until the five minute mark. Like the first track, Khan El Khalili opens with a drone with the song fading in over two minutes later, but this time, it's much more gentle and trippy. An absolute must-have record for fans of the german scene. It definitely deserves it's place among the top albums of it's kind. |
