Alphaville is Airaksinen's personal soundtrack (ode?) to Jean-Luc Godard's film of the same name, starring Eddie Constantine and Anna Karina; a weird sci-fi flick with Orwellian overtones. Each title is a direct reference to elements of the movie (the Alpha-60 computer which runs the title city, love and emotion are outlawed, thus No Love and No Communication). The music can be enjoyed without having seen the film and I believe it is preferable this way as I fail to see the similarities between the sounds here and the film itself (besides maybe the cold and alienated atmosphere). Some tracks use breakneck, machine gun paced beats similar to those of Squarepusher; fun on their own, but annoying when trying to associate with the film. Only the short Professor manages to pull off a soundtrack atmosphere. Not a very essential album from this very prolific composer.
