A companion piece to M58. Although I would tend to think this album precedes M58, the way they were released would suggest the opposite. Regardless, both albums are very similar and I see them as only one double album (instead of two separate albums). The short ambient tracks are small odes to the different nebulas and star clusters in Messier's space objects catalogue (lovingly displayed on the cover art of each album - I've even seen two different covers for M58 with only one of the two using a NASA hubble telescope image). These recordings are the closest Airaksinen has come to creating pure ambient music and they are high on my list of favorites. The drones and shimmering sounds still sound fresh today and the cosmic mood is quite rich. Very lovely work! There are apparently more of these recordings stowed away in a box, hopefully they will be released one day. |
