The music on Airaksinen's Mangala was recorded back in 1986, but released only a decade later. Many of the artist's output of the last ten years follows this pattern, they aren't released chronologically and some songs might have been composed year before the next. This record is a pretty nice one featuring what sounds like live tribal drums playing alongside his synthesizer. Anyone who is familiar with The Residents during the eighties will feel quite at home with this album as the pompous synth melodies are quite similar (although I don't believe these two artists were aware of each other). Much of Airaksinen's work is devotional, so once again, the title tracks almost always reference to buddhism, it's mythology and rituals. Quite uneven on the whole, but still a strong effort. My personal favorite track from this album is King Of Snakes, a simple yet lovely arpeggiated ambient track.
