Milk Sea is one of Pekka Airaksinen's many albums composed for meditation sessions in one of his many buddhist centers in Finland. The sounds are mostly lush, ambient, synth washes and drones. They are not all peaceful (as on the title track), and some are even downright dark (Purified), but most of them are quite relaxing. There's a Pete Namlook vibe to some tracks (these are favorites of mine), but some of these tracks are somewhat annoying and disturbing if taken out of their meditative context (some parts sound straight out of a cheesy Cirque Du Soleil soundtrack or Hunters-era Residents). The most ambient pieces are quite nice here, but cheesy tracks like Palace get on my nerves and sound out of place on an otherwise beautiful album. |
