After the chaotic opening of Without G, which sounds like the insane soundtrack to an alien autopsy or U.F.O. get-away music (in fact, the main theme of this album seems to be the cosmos), the album settles down into a moodier atmosphere. Long drawn out synth drones with shimmering hi-hat samples and odd melodies surface here and there. This is creepy, dark-alley music. Mirror On Forehead, for example, sounds like something David Lynch stalwart Angelo Badalamenti could have composed for Blue Velvet. However, some of the tracks on here are borderline new age (In The Middle Of Space), but the more beat-oriented tracks like Black Bears (which sounds a lot like Aphex Twin's Shiny Metal Rods) or Tents Of Sheep Flocks keep the album's mood in check. Another interesting album by this outsider electronic composer. |
