Airaksinen finally sounds like a composer on this album. The piano is the main instrument here even though small electronic samples do infiltrate the short pieces (what would an Airaksinen be without them?). For those who thought the man can't play, this album will prove them wrong. The artist was a music scholar and he shows it off here (try and play the cascading notes of Visa Tense Intent and get back to me). No matter how good he is behind the instrument, the results are somewhat cold and difficult although I do prefer this to a lot of his masturbatory electronic oddities. This is the kind of recording you could do your masters degree on, it's so complex, calculated and seemingly impenetrable. Serialism has obviously been an influence on this album. I hear a bit of Philip Glass, some Reich and even some Wim Mertens-esque melancholia surfacing through this "wall of notes".
