Oren Ambarchi
One of the key figures in modern guitar compositions (although the drums was his first passion), Australia's Oren Ambarchi ranks up with the likes of Keith Rowe and Christian Fennesz as one of the most innovative explorers of the instrument. His versatility and open-minded approach has led him to collaborate with many different artists from around the globe including drone metal doomsters SunnO))), fellow australian Martin Ng, Pimmon, Phill Niblock, Earth, Keiji Haino, you name it! Ambarchi's solo work finds the artist pushing the limits of what the guitar is supposed to sound like, to the point where the instrument can barely be identified as the source material. Ominous, often bass-heavy drones, IDM-like glitches and strange sound deconstruction predominate his works.
People have often suggested that I listen to some of his works considering my love of Thomas Köner's albums and indeed, I can tell they have similar approaches to soundscapes (even though both come from different backgrounds). His work definitely fascinates me, so there will be more to come on this page eventually.
