I don't even know where to begin or even explain why I love this album so much (it's easily my favorite by AMM). The Crypt - 12th June 1968 is nearly two hours worth of incessant grating metallic noises, not unlike spending an afternoon in a rundown steel mill filled with rusty, dangerously overheated machinery operated by hyperactive lunatics. It's unnerving, irritating, abrasive, relentlessly confrontational and yet I can't get enough of it! This is groundbreaking noise music which predates Lou Reed's infamous Metal Machine Music by a full seven years (and there are actual performers here). No matter how often I listen to it, this album always gives me that same wonderful sensation of being the first to explore new, uncharted territory. Like A Cloud Hanging is the noisiest of the album's three works and is a rewarding listen for you adventurous types. The second CD on the other hand is much mellower, but the noise factor is still through the roof.
