Disaster was the first album I purchased by Amon Düül. Even though Collapsing went on to be the album I preferred, this is the one that impressed me enough to want to know more. The drums are loud, the guitar is completely fucked, strange samples and edits from out of nowhere, what else could I ask for? It's also the longest of the jam albums, so it's a perfect place to get to know them. What to make of a song like Autonomes? Why the left-right channel panning of the drums? It's just annoying and confusing!? What a beautiful mess! On Asynchron, you can actually hear some hippy kid in the background calling repeatedly after his/her mother who's probably caught up in a trance, jamming on her bongo. it's all quite charming in it's own quirky, twisted and messy kind of way. |
