The only album in the group's entire output which is (apparently) not lifted from the original 1969 jam session is a much quieter affair and for this reason a much less interesting one (to these ears). The hippy-factor is through the roof throughout the record and it's a turn off for me (with lyrics like "Love is peace, freedom is harmony", the smell of incense and marijuana practically blows out from your speakers). There is a very psychedelic break at the eight minute mark of the first track which is far out enough to grab my attention, but it only lasts two minutes. The album's not bad at all by itself, but when compared to the insanity found on the other "jam" albums, it just feels too tame and out of place. It's hard not to compare knowing who they are, but it just doesn't feel like the same band. |
