As soon as the opening riff of Soap Shop Rock blasts through your speakers, you know you're in for a treat. What Tago Mago was to Can, what Sgt. Pepper's was to The Beatles, Yeti is to Amon Düül II. It is an absolute classic of heavy-psyche rock, progressive rock (or whatever you prefer calling it). Besides the obvious greatness of the opening track, a few other highlights are worth mentioning. Archangels Thunderbird has the crunchiest, most funky guitar riff in the group's history, impossible not to bob your head to the rhythm. Eye-Shaking King is the strangest, most fucked-up track ever by the band; such strange riffs, both heavy and slow with mind-bending vocals! My favorite! The second half of the album is dedicated to improvised jams and they're all great, but the all-out intensity found on Yeti Talks To Yogi make it a notch better then the rest! Not owning this album is a crime! Go already! |
