The Anaksimandros
Another member of the very large family of the finnish underground. Other members include: Kemialliset Ystävät, Islaja, Avarus and Päivänsäde (among many others); and like many of those groups, Anaksimandros also shares some of it's members. I consider The Anaksimandros' sound to be somewhere between the psychedelic lullabies of Kemialliset Ystävät and the free-for-all of Avarus. But all three groups have something in common, there is a very strong tribal/folk element to their music. It is repetitive, the instruments are often completely out of tune and played without any regards to tempo. Also the use of any instrument possible is a must, whether it be traditional folk instruments or cheap toys.
It is quite difficult to differentiate one of these bands from the other, as mentioned before, most of the members from one band are often in another band and the addition of a new player is often cause enough to give the project a new name. In this case, Kemialliset Ystävät, Avarus and Kuupuu is equal to The Anaksimandros. There are very few releases by this project to date, two cassettes (one of which was later released on vinyl, but that too is now discontinued) and one LP. If anyone has the slightest bit of knowledge of the finnish underground scene, The Anaksimandros are pretty hard to avoid. I found out about them through my own interest in the musical phenomenon which was happening in Finland.
