Ah! There's nothing more fun than to hear an established artist's "humble" beginnings, but I'm afraid these early examples of Richard D. James' work are far from humble! I mean this guy creates his own synthesizers for Christ sake! What d'you expect? Starting off with Aphex Twin's very first single Digeridoo, we are immediately propelled into the artist's very own vision of electronic dance music. No cheesy vocals here, just hyperactive beats, incredibly fucked up noises and melodies and fascinating breaks. And that's just one of the many treats on Classics! It's no wonder the man has almost single-handedly reinvented the genre and influenced a generation of electronic artists. Some songs do have an industrial vibe which I don't quite care much for (Flaphead & Metapharstic) but even these are much better than most industrial bands complete output. Besides Digeridoo, another favorite track of mine is the majestic Polynomial-C.
