A masterpiece. This album is one of my top ten albums of all time. Beautiful alien soundscapes spread out over two CDs (that's over two-and-a-half hours worth of ambient bliss). Contrary to his first volume of ambient works, the rhythmic elements are kept to a strict minimum, yet you couldn't possibly mistake them for anybody else's work. This is much closer in spirit to Brian Eno's own ambient experiments. I first bought the Sire edition of this release, but found out later on that it was missing a song found on the Warp edition (what a rip-off), so I had to sell my first copy to get the complete one. When I moved to Sweden, I sold this album and it took over two years before I decided to buy it again (hopefully for the last time). There is no describing how beautiful and original (and sometimes scary) these minimal aural trips are. Some find them too "cold", but it's a very personal experience. |
