Before Funeral, there was this demo which had leaked on the net after their rapid rise to success. Disappointed by the situation, the group decided to re-release it as a convenient and remastered EP. Anyone who enjoyed their debut album will probably enjoy this just as much, it definitely is a perfect addition. At just over thirty minutes long it's a pretty substantial release with one hit after another. The two main highlights are definitely No Cars Go and The Woodlands National Anthem. The former is a future rock anthem in the making which has been re-recorded for the group's Neon Bible album while the latter has a strong Pixies vibe (No. 13 Baby and all of Surfer Rosa) which works very well. The EP is worth getting for these two tracks alone, but the rest holds up very well on it's own as well. I wasn't planning on buying this at first, but after finding it for three bucks used, I couldn't resist and I can say I would gladly have paid more. |
