The pressure must have been incredible. All eyes were on The Arcade Fire as they were about to unleash their second full length to the hordes of hungry fans. So is Neon Bible a success? Well, it all depends on the eye of the beholder. Their ability to create catchy and powerful tunes is proven and now undeniable. Songs like Keep The Car Running with it's pounding beat and mandolin riff will definitely be on repeat mode on many stereo systems; same goes for the new version of No Cars Go (which first appeared on the group's eponymous EP), which sends chills down my spine every time I listen to it, fucking great tune! My only qualm with the album is it's production: there is such a thing as over producing. The intimate, almost naked atmosphere of Funeral has given way to thick, bombastic layers of sound which sometimes leaves the vocals in the dark. If you can get passed the murky production, Neon Bible will not disappoint. |
