More lo-fi pop madness on this third release for Animal Collective's Paw Tracks. This reissue of House Arrest (which was first released in 2002 as a double album along with Lover Boy on Ballbearings Pinatas) might contain a bit less "hits" than on other albums, but there is still plenty to enjoy here. Many of the tracks here feel more like a long lost psych-rock record from the sixties which was never released until now (check out Interesting Results, Almost Waiting or even Helen). I personally prefer Ariel Pink when he ventures along the thin line between extremely cheesy pop and brilliance and there are a few gems to be found. My personal favorite is Alisa with it's vintage porn flick bassline and catchy chorus (if it doesn't stick in your head for the following week, you have no soul). Flying Circles finds the old Casio keyboard making a welcome return (there's just not enough of it on this album!). The reissue comes with two amazing bonus tracks. |
