You can count on Ariel Pink to turn 9/11 into a moment of pure pop/rock musical extravaganza! This fifteen minute long EP was recorded on the day of the terrorist attacks on New York City and is a spur-of-the-moment creation which embodies the paranoia and confusion of that fateful day, wrapped in a retro, lo-fi pop, candy colored-packaging. The "suite" is divided into two parts, both of which are introduced by samples of television coverings of the event. These samples give the piece it's somber tones (and at times subtly point out the artist's views and opinions), but Ariel Pink is not out to bum anyone out. Witchhunt [...] is indeed a pop masterpiece with a progrock soul that embodies in a unique way the chaos of 9/11. Kind of sad that this EP, which is a part of series on the Melted Mailbox label, is so limited. Vinyl comes housed in incredibly beautiful artwork by Cody Hoyt (if I could afford it, I'd get the whole series just for the artwork). |
