May God strike me down if Godspeed You! Black Emperor have never heard this album before! I've had friends asking me if this was GYBE when I played it in the car. There are so many similarities it couldn't possibly be a coincidence. The way the guitar washes gradually swell up and fade away on Amboss, the steady build up as the guitar freak-outs slowly get louder and louder, the sense of drama, it's all there! The album is so ahead of it's time it's unbelievable. No wonder it features on many lists as one of the most important krautrock albums ever. Traummaschine is a much quieter number. It starts off with a low guitar drone with voices join in later on. The song starts picking up a bit at about nine minutes in, but the real guitar fuzz freak-out only comes in ten minutes later. Very moody and as impressive as the first track! An absolute must! There are no excuses not to own this album! |
