When I first bought this album back when it came out, I listened to it once and set it aside. Back then, I was slowly discovering the whole krautrock scene (and my budget reflected this), so Autechre and co. sort of took the back seat. At this point, every new album by the duo was getting more and more experimental, layered, complex, confusing and even frustrating at times. Even early albums like Amber or the classic Tri Repetae++ have always sounded quite aloof and cold, but with Draft 7.30, any semblance of warmth or intelligibility had practically disappeared. This is dance music for the 51st century when we'll all be cyborgs with faulty wiring. As much as I find a track like 61e.CR fascinating, as much as I believe it to be digestible in small doses only. Sitting through Draft 7.30 in one sitting demands a lot of patience and I'm sure it can be rewarding if you ask the hardcore fans, but I personally have trouble making it out alive of this one. Baby steps.
