HA!!! I still can't get over the fact that I found this album for only three bucks in a puny music store in the Montreal suburban area! Don't you love it when people don't know what they are selling? LP5 got it's name from the fact that it was Autechre's fifth full length release, but there is no title to be found anywhere on the record. This one finds the duo in the midst of a strange transitory state. They were slowly letting go of the danceable beats and melodic elements of their earlier releases in favor of a more complex sound structure. There are still plenty of songs that will have you tap your feet and bob your head to the beat (Rae and Fold4, Wrap5 are especially wonderful), but other tracks, like the alien Under Boac or the filler track Caliper Remote will leave you scratching your heads. This version of LP5 includes a "hidden" track, yet there is a chapter stop for it. Go figure! The jewel case is entirely black with the band name engraved in the plastic.
