Another great album by Avarus. This one is, with III, the best place to start if you want to check the group out for the first time; it is definitely their most spaced-out to date. The two first tracks blend perfectly together as they transform from ethnic/world music raga to all-out heavy-psych jamming! Things soon get tribal again, but the psychedelic sounds remain; distant flutes with reverberating vocals drifting over arrhythmic drums. When electronics swirls of sound appear on Itu Kurkistaa Mullasta, you've heard what Avarus is all about: they might sound ancient and tribal at times, but these weird noises remind you that this an urban and modern phenomenon. On Prinssi Halonen, the vocals are so full of reverb that they sound like whale calls! Joutsenkivi Not'sissa sounds a bit like Lard Free at their most drugged-out. No misses on this record, it sound fun and new with every spin. |
