I haven't been keeping up with what's coming out of Finland lately, but I've never forgotten the bands that made such a strong first impression on me and Avarus is one of them. So whenever something new comes out, I just can't miss out on it. Rasvaaja is Avarus' first album in over a year (something rare considering how prolific they were at one time) and it is only available as this beautiful piece of vinyl (which is limited to 300 copies). This band has always been quite trippy, but usually elements of psychedelic rock would infiltrate the madness, but with the exception of Nannamonttu, an Amon Düül-like monster jam, the music is pretty much exclusively weird. These five songs constitute the soundtrack to your trip directly into a straight jacket. Buckle up tight and bite onto something because this one will drive you insane. Discombobulatingly refreshing sounds from these forest dwellers. Sold out and hard to find unfortunately.
