What an ugly cover (walrus overload!)... What a great album! Avarus let go of the rock and concentrate on the roll, that's rolling on the floor in drug-hazed shaman ecstasy. These freaky finns are renowned to be weird, but they went beyond themselves with this one. The psychedelic drone that is Lapsivesi will surely have you foaming at the mouth while you twitch and roll up into the foetal position. It actually reminds me a bit of some the noisier works by Birchville Cat Motel. Then you've got the mind-boggling Löylyvesi which sounds like a kids theme song for vegetable children, The Residents practically pale in comparison. The two part Vissyvesi is a noisy and bizarre jam, filled with whacked out guitar strumming, vocal drones, chipmunk samples and cheesy electric organ. Vesikansi is the group's most fucked up outing to date, but also one of the most fun and enjoyable. |
