Recorded in 1994, but mixed in 1999 and released the year after. Five years! God knows why! The album is comprised of mostly instrumental tracks which have a really strong indie-rock vibe. This reminds me a lot of Sebadoh circa Bakesale with more electronic beeps and buzzes and a lot less vocals. The riffs are great and pack quite a punch on songs like Meek Inherits Space and Rock And Roll and A Strong Maybe, but the electronic bits are also quite good as on Can You Hear My Sleep Dog?, which also includes a brass section! I must say I prefer the instrumental tracks to the vocal tracks, but in general a really good "surprise" album for me as I have never followed John Reis' work before. |
