Basinski once again went through his collection of old recordings for this album. It really sounds like those saddening shorts off of Melancholia but stretched out to a fifty minute track. The ambient quality of these old-sounding recordings is remarkable, but Basinski does not limit himself to simple piano loops. This time around he includes a healthy does of industrial drones to his work. At about six minutes into the song, a heavy grating drone slowly swells up and takes over the song until it fades out a few minutes later. There are a few seconds of complete silence at this point until the familiar leitmotiv of escalating piano notes shows up once again in a different form (and really resembles that second track from Melancholia). The song fades out quite early towards the end, leaving about two minutes of almost complete silence. |
