Without having recourse to old recordings, Basinski here proves that he is still able to make very beautiful sounds on modern equipment; in this case, the Voyetra synthesizer. Listening to this is like sleeping way out in the country on a cool summer evening, with the windows open and being drifted away as the crickets play love songs to the starry sky. The high-pitched recreation of cicada sounds is not bothersome as it is very lifelike and pleasant, the warm synthesizer tones are what will cause those drifting feelings, enveloping you like a soft blanket, caressing you like the soft breeze coming through the window. It's stunning what imagery Basinski can create with these simple sounds and yet again, none of this falls on the cheesy side. You could easily fall asleep to this music, but you could never accuse it of being the usual new age crap out there. Lovely work once again!
