Sappy new age? Hardly! Sleep-inducing experimental drones? Absolutely! Watermusic is one hour of pure blissed out feathery drones and shimmering tones. It is impossible to listen to this and remain concentrated on the subtle shifts in the sound throughout, it is meant to be lost in. As cheesy as this sounds, Basinski's work never crosses the line, this remains quite experimental at heart and is able to test the patience of even the most hardcore, patchouli-smelling, new age nut. Besides the cascading notes in the background, I don't hear much in the music which I can associate with water as the title might have you believe. Regardless, this is great music for meditation and relaxation. This was originally released as a limited CD-R edition and signed by the artist, but it was later reissued on CD (in the same transparent clamshell) as interest in Basinski grew.
