The cover might be white, but once the sounds are lifted from the LP (or CD in this case), they is split up and run through the whole color spectrum. These thirty songs spread across two albums finds these legendary brits going absolutely nuts! This album is all over the place. The gap between the spastic rock of Back To The U.S.S.R. and the soft spoken Dear Prudence, the album's first two songs, is as wide as the eyes can see, yet it works. There is somewhat of a flow as the album progresses, but more often than not, each song feels like it has a mind of it's own and most people will look back at it and point out favorite songs instead of saying it's a favorite album. My own personal favorites are Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Helter Skelter and the sound collage of Revolution 9. The Pixies have done a fun cover of Wild Honey Pie which is very truthful to the original. A messy classic. |
