The first twelve minutes of Creeping Frost Onset (a single track album) is pure sinewave drones. This will really alienate your loved ones if played loud at home. From that point on however, the song seems to morph into something entirely different every minute or so. You might be getting scraped cymbals with hummed chants one minute, a plethora of baby toy sounds the next. The song then slowly settles down (so to speak) into a Nitsch-like atonal symphony for a while before getting weird on us once again towards the end as a clarinet and unidentified scrapings sounds lead us towards the exit. Not the easiest album to appreciate, but still quite rewarding if you are ready to take the challenge and sit through it. Unlike other albums by Kneale, this one needs a certain amount of concentration in order to be enjoyed. All you adventurous types should check it out (if you can find a copy!). |
