Like a symphony of buzzing electric razors, Gigantic Planetary Collapse opens this rare tour only release on a very grating note. This track truly feels like having your head shaved on your front porch by a dozen military zealots while a thousand dads are mowing their lawns simultaneously. Don't get me wrong, this isn't bad in any way, it's pure Birchvillian droning madness, but the uninitiated will run in fear. The title track is much more peaceful, moody and actually quite beautiful with it's droning cymbals and soft chimes. When listened to from a certain angle, there's a certain Vangelis-like quality which comes forth (somehow I can't get the final images of Chariots Of Fire out of my head!). A simple rock beat fades in a bit later on, and the track slowly morphs into a bizarre pop track, something I never thought I would hear on a BCM release; it's the yang to the first track's yin if you will. |
