Wow! I never thought Birchville Cat Motel could create such quiet music. Vespertine is basically the same drone/loop repeated for the duration of the track. Listening to this is like spending the night in a power station, alone and hearing the machines buzzing and reverberating. Not much else is going on, but the sounds are quite hypnotic. A few bleeps are heard in the background at regular intervals. I've listened to this album quite attentively and I can hear only the slightest of variations. They are so subtle that one couldn't be blamed for thinking there are no changes whatsoever. It is easy to forget about the sounds and the recording does have a nice ambient quality to it, but I believe only the most hardcore BCM fans will enjoy this. It's just too still and it will try some listeners' patience. Fans of ambient music however will most likely love it as these drones/loops are quite soothing and make incredible background music. Late evening music. |
