Even though elements of drum'n'bass and jungle music, popular genres at the time, have infiltrated this record (thanks to her then golden toothed hubby Goldie), Homogenic remains my favorite Björk album to date. I see it as a pivotal album. It retains the charm of her two earlier albums, but there's a clear leaning towards darker and more experimental territory (just check out Pluto). Opener Hunter is a much more difficult listen than Army Of Me and Human Behavior put together, but with time, it's charm reveals itself to the listener. Her sound is much more dramatic and grandiose as well. Tracks like Jòga and Bachelorette (my all-time favorite Björk song), bring a tear to my eyes when listened to on headphones or at high volumes. Her voice definitely has the ability to pierce one's emotional balance. All Is Full Of Love is another lovely song, but I prefer the video remix to the album version. |
