Björk continues to soar ever freer on Medúlla, an album built almost exclusively using voice and vocal samples from herself, guest artists (most notably Mike Patton, Rahzel and Robert Wyatt) and just about anyone who could demonstrate some sort of vocal prowess. The album is nowhere near as accessible as her earlier albums, but it's not as uncompromising as some people have made it out to be. There are hooks on some of these songs, like Where Is The Line, or the incredible Triumph Of A Heart), it is much more melodious and pleasant to listen to than the minimal (but beautiful) Vespertine in my opinion. It is also very nice to hear Björk singing in her native language for once on three tracks. You'll never here any of these songs in some alternative dance club, but you have to give her credit for always broadening her horizons, pushing the boundaries and being unique from album to album.
