Not even a year had passed between Black Sabbath's first eponymous album and this one, but no signs of weakening in the group's sound yet. This is still some heavy, sludgy, pounding shit! War Pigs has one of the absolute best guitar riffs and intro to a metal song, period! Paranoid has gone on to become one of Black Sabbath's most easily recognizable radio hits. And then you've got Iron Man another classic and my favorite track on this album. The group's psychedelic, trippy side shows up on Planet Caravan. The only thing I don't get with this album is the cover art. I dunno, but if some guy wearing an old motorcycle helmet with a cape and funky underwear would pop out from behind a tree, deadly saber in his hands or not, I would probably just drop dead laughing. Nonetheless, they had now made two classic albums in a row! And they were not about to let anyone catch there breath just yet! |
