With track titles like these, you just know Keiji Haino's involvement is there somewhere. The album is a live recording of both artists performing in Japan back in 1997 and it sure sounds that way. You'll probably want to turn up the volume for this one as the recording makes the bands sound incredibly far away, but still, to get to hear these two wonderful artists performing together is quite a treat. Besides the fact that the album is quite heavy, I can't say I can hear Boris participation as much as Haino's. Each track is a jumpy, ever changing mass of sound with wickedly demented vocals. Most of them end abruptly mid-tune, the effect is slightly annoying and makes me wonder if this is an artistic choice or if they had trouble recording the show. The album is a hoot for anyone who likes Boris in their experimental mode, but others might be disappointed to hear them slightly out of character. Still worth hearing for such a rare collaboration. |
