Well... The heavy side of Amplifier and Heavy Rocks is gone. Boris have opted with something similar to Flood once again, but at least they've decided to put the distortion on. What you get is something in between. Once again the forty-four minute long track is divided, this time, in five separate parts (for convenience I guess). The end result is something like Godspeed You! Black Emperor playing with distorted instruments. It's definitely more in the post-rock vein then it is the doom metal vein. I could easily say that Boris are the equivalent of Norway's Ulver. They shift from one style to the other, yet you are supposed to take their development seriously. This album is much more interesting than Flood ever was. At least they stay true to themselves. The music is raw, loud and heavy (check out part three and four!). Once again, the last part of the song is used to fade out any aggressiveness found before. |
