I had to double check several times to make sure this really was a Boris record. It sure didn't sound like anything they had put out up to this point. The first ten minutes of the first track are simply two identical, clean-sounding riffs phasing in and out of each other, loud, reverberating drums then kick in. The second part (the hour long track is divided in four parts) is this really soft tune, kind of psychedelic, but that's it. The heavy stuff only comes in at six minutes into the third part (very slowly fading-in mind you! So no big metal surprise attack here!). At seven minutes things actually get quite heavy, but it's all quite bombastic, like a rock anthem, and is kind of a lame pay-off for all we've been expecting. I would have just stuck with the calmer stuff instead of jumping to this. The fourth part of Flood is a slow fade into ambient territory and is the only part I can actually recommend from this album.
