Not exactly a Boris release, but Wata's link to the band seems unbreakable no matter how different this material is. Here she is joined by friend Ai Aso (of White Heaven) on the A side. She covers the song Islands off of the album of the same name by King Crimson. Her version retains the moody pastoral mood of the original, but with a touch of naivety with psychedelic overtones. Quite lovely! Wata's side, entitled Angel, is as dreamy, if not more so, as the first. I see this release as a means to let her feminine side roam free. Although her ideas are palpable in Boris' work, the music is far more testosterone-driven than what we get to hear on She's So Heavy. Angel just oozes with Guns N' Roses-like melodrama; once we get to the final guitar solo, I can clearly imagine a tear running down her cheek as she bends the "B" string to the skies in slow motion. Limited to 1500 copies, each one comes in a booklet with tons of lush photos of the two artists. |
