For those of us who prefer Boris at their most doom/drone/experimental, The Thing Which Solomon Overlooked series comes as a godsend. Volume one was released back in 2004 and 2006 sees the simultaneous release of volumes two and three. This second volume offers many different sides to Boris' instrumental explorations. No Ones Grieve Part 2 for example is a none stop punk-noise-rock tune with relentless pounding beats behind a wall of in-the-red distortion. The very next song however sounds like Boris covering a Flying Saucer Attack tune including the patented chugging sounds. The second side includes the single noisiest drone track they've ever committed to wax. Merciless is precisely what the title evokes. Ouch! My friggin' ears! The last track, An Another After Image, is an incredibly peaceful and quiet tune which acts as balm for the soul after such a rough aural assault. |
