Volume three in the Solomon series includes what I consider to be one of Boris' crowning achievements: Leviathan. This long track starts off very quietly, practically ambient and quite psychedelic. My first impressions were that this tune was going to be like something Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Ash Ra Tempel might have come up with had they jammed together. The song moves along slowly, lulling you, but at about eight minutes in, the bomb hits the ground and WHAM! You're hit by fifty megatons of pure, agonizing guitar doom. It left me gasping for air and trying to catch up with how powerful the song had suddenly become. The loud cymbals are a very nice touch and add to the song's sense of drama. Dimly Tale is a much shorter drone piece. Side two is dedicated entirely to doom with Sola Stone being one of the heaviest works they've done since Absolutego+. |
