This album is fun in a retro kind of way. You put this on to remember what music sounded like at it's peak in the eighties and indeed, this album was a high point. It might be commercial as hell, but the songs had great hooks and went on to become pop gems. Modern Love conjures up images of pastel colors and sweat bands in my head (and not on my head). China Girl is now a favorite background song in any large scale mall near you today. The title track is a great (if quite long) dance tune and makes good use of The Beatles music during it's intro (and in the midsection). A eighties classic! Nothing I put on the stereo regularly, but it definitely has a place in my Bowie collection. |
