Besides the opening track, Changes, which was a huge success for Bowie and Life On Mars, I've never been able to get into this album. But even these two tracks have this cabaret aspect to them which gets on my nerves. And this aspect is omnipresent throughout the album. It's just way too smooth and plain in general for me to enjoy it. There are some songs which I really like however, the aforementioned Life On Mars with it's emotional arrangements and vocals which really strike a chord in me and then Andy Warhol, which starts with this great vocal cut-up accompanied with electronic beeps. When the song really begins, it remains strange enough to keep my attention, especially during the outro when the different instruments seem to collide with each other. The ending of The Bewlay Brothers caps off the album quite well with it's bizarre vocal effects.
