Filled with bizarre electro noises courtesy of Brain Eno, Low treads the fine line between a full-on rock album and experimentalism. Almost half of the album is instrumental-only as well. It did come out during Bowie's more experimental years where hints of krautrock (and especially Kraftwerk or Harmonia in this case) would surface, but there is still plenty of more accessible numbers on the album which make it a great album for people who like the hits but would like to dig deeper and actually hear what he is capable of. Despite the huge shift near the middle of the album (starting with Warszawa) towards more exploratory territory, there is a certain homogeneity and balance which prevents the album from sounding all over the place. Along with the similar (but darker) Heroes, Low is definitely one of my favorite Bowie albums. I absolutely love What In The World which sounds like it was composed using an old Atari game console.
