Probably Bowie's best early album. Some of these tracks are quite heavy to an almost Black Sabbath extent. Just check out the slow guitar riffs of All The Madmen to hear for yourself. Black Country Rock is a classic tune with a great driving beat and melody which plays regularly still on rock radio stations. She Shook Me Cold has Hendrix-like guitar work; a great, twisted track with strange vocal melodies. Then you've got the title track which was made popular again twenty years later when Nirvana, whose hit video of their acoustic remake, was on heavy rotation on MTV. A somewhat strange album in general but it packs quite a punch even today. |
